Mac OS X Snow Leopard Review
I picked up the Mac OS X Snow Leopard from the supplier yesterday and then installed on my iMac 24″.
Here is the specs of my Mac – iMac 24″ Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 640 GB ( 280 GB Free), Mac OS 10.5.8.
The installation was pretty straight forward, insert the system DVD, double clicked the Mac OS X Install and it was it. When I clicked on the customize, the Rosetta and Quick Time 7 wasn’t ticked and I selected them all and then installed.
It took 50 minutes to complete the installation and I did not notice any differences after it started up.
But I had 2 problems, emails and EyeTv. Emails won’t go out in Apple Mail. It needed to re-configure Outgoing mail Server (SMTP) with authentication. Went to Advanced and chose “Password” for Authentication and typed in the user name and password of my Internet Account.I didn’t need the authentication for outgoing mails before the upgrade. The other problem was EyeTv version 2.5.3 won’t open anymore. It looks like I need to upgrade it to version 3.
Other programs are running without any problems. These are Adobe CS4 Design premium, Office Mac 2008, Firefox 3.5.2, Skype 2.7.0.330, Toast 10.0, Stuffit Deluxe 13, Mactracker 5.08. Parallels Desktop 4.03, FileZilla 3.0.11.
The other minor problem that i have is Quick Time Player version 10.0 won’t open the wmv files. Downloaded the current version of Flip4Mac 2.2.3.7 and installed, but didn’t fix the problem.
The obvious and significant improvement of the Snow Leopard upgrade is very fast shut down time, wake up time from sleep and connecting to the wireless network..
The jury is still out for other advantages that we supposed to get for upgrading to Mac OS X Snow Leopard.
The compelling reason of the upgrade is the low cost of AUD $39.00, which is exceptionally good value for the Mac users. The upgrading experience was trouble free and straight forward, but the advantages of the new system were not that apparent in the very short time frame.

Dear Mr Wong, I was impressed with your impartial opinion.
Can you create your own “Alert sounds” and put them in your friends start up items and annoy them With “Snow”? I hope so. I love doing that! I’ll call it a “Snow Job”. Ha, Ha.
Seriously though, does it have faster “Safari” I heard It was 64 bit?
How is you tube improved?
Is it twice as fast? Is the sound better?
Cheers, Al Ertsound
Hi dion,
Yes, it’s a paid WP theme ($77) and a worthwhile investment for me.
